You are Here: BBT Chart Gallery > New to charting. What does this spike mean?

This post relates to: baby BBT BD CD CM EW PCOS u/s

Don't like what you see on this chart?

I'm new to BBT charting (after giving up a long time ago as I have PCOS & VERY irregular cycles) and have just had my first round of clomid. This a.m. I had a spike in temp... Does this mean I O'd or does it have to stay up at least .4 for a few more days before that can be confirmed??? Thanks for your input in advance!

Well of course I am no expert but it looks as if you may have O'd on CD 13 which is early but you have your bases covered with all the BDing. Sending you lots of baby dust! If it were I, I would bd tonight and tomorrow as well.

With CLomid you O 5-9 days after you take your last pill. A spike happens after you O, so you should make sure to anticipate that and BD before that (which you did :)). Your temp spiked CD 13, so you would have Oed CD 12. Some women have a definate drop, so they will know. With Clomid, you sometimes get a fake + OPK on around day 9 (which looks like you would have with your drop). Since you have PCOS, OPKs will probably not be accurate for you, but if you decide to use them, do not take until CD 12 with Clomid for reason mentioned above. Good luck! I have many friends who have PCOS and have conceived, so it is definately possible!!! Make sure you get a blood test CD 21 to make sure you Oed and an u/s to make sure no cysts since on Clomid AND have PCOS - my advice from personal experience. :) BABY DUST!!!

With the spike, there is no way of really telling bc it could go back down tomorrow, resulting from something during your sleep. If the next days do stay high...then I would say you O'ed CD12, and once you mark it there, your coverline and luteal days will go to what you have them set (assuming those are right numbers). Clomid can cause high temps at time, but you can also watch your CM to see if EW to see if you are in fertile period. Took me a while to understand all this, but once you get the hang of it...it gets a lot easier. Maybe you can post new chart with newer temps from today and tomorrow (Friday) so we can tell for sure if you O'ed or not. Good luck and BABY DUST! :)
