Difficulty Conceiving

Female Factors

Approximately 30 - 40% of all infertility is due to a "female" factor such as scarring from sexually transmitted disease or endometriosis, ovulation dysfunction, poor nutrition, hormone imbalance, ovarian cysts, pelvic infection, tumor, or transport system abnormality from the cervix through the fallopian tubes.

Ovulation

In order to verify you are ovulating, your doctor will ask you specific questions aimed at determining the regularity of your menstrual cycle and after she believes your ovulation has taken place within your current cycle, she will order blood work to check for the hormones TSH (Thyroid-stimulating hormone), progesterone and prolactin.

Reproductive Anatomy

If you are ovulating, and your partner is producing mobile, long-living sperm, your doctor will want you to consent to a Hysterosalpingogram or Laparoscopy in order to diagnose and correct any issues found with your anatomy.
