I am on metformin also. I am not diabetic. My mother in law is a NP and explianed it is not exactly raising lowering my blood sugar but allowing it to attaach to cells and processing out... this process makes you loose lates because its not in the body turning to fat. I have not ups/downs in my blood sugar really no effects at all. hope this helps

I was dx with pcos in feb 09 and was put on metformin 1500mg a day. The first week or so you can get sick on the stomach and you have to watch what you eat. You need to watch your sugars and carbs. I switched to whole wheat bread and low glycemic index foods. Hope this helps! I have noticed I am not as hungry all the time and have lost a few pounds the two months I have been on it! Good luck!

I am on metformin since March 2009, and I was told I have PCOS in November of 08. The doctor put me on the metformin to help regulate some of my hormone levels that are out of wack since the PCOS. Since with PCOS you don't ovulate or at least not regulary because of the hormone inbalance being on metformin has showed to help women ovulate since it does regulate hormones. Although has not been proven to help "treat" PCOS many doctors use it to help with the symptoms.

Hope this helps!

Heather
