My doc said that BBT can have some inaccuracies, and she recommended OPK strongly (besides, BBT only helps pinpoint O after it happens, which doesn't help with the BD timing). I use both to help pinpoint O, since a + OPK means O in the next 24-48 hours I think. A rise in temp in that time helps me know which day I O'd. Also, I caught an early O recently. They recommmended OPK from babyhopes.com and I've been using them with good results.

I am considering stopping BBT after O, except the day or two before AF, when it drops significantly if AF is coming. Less stress. The fluctuations up and down in the LP don't really tell you much and just make me stressed out.

You may want to borrow Taking Charge of Your Fertility from the library, to begin to learn about your fertility and body. Very informative.

Good luck!

I agree with Cinnamon about the BBT and OPK's. It's the best way to predict and confirm ovulation. It is important to take your temps at the same time every morning after at least 3 hours of sleep for accuracy.

If your doctor wants to see your temps after three months of temping I would make sure I include your entire cycle for accuracy. (I am seeing my obgyn after four months of temping on Tuesday. Hopefully these charts will give him information that is helpful.)

I did a chart for 4 months while trying to concieve my second. It was futile lol My temps were all over the place, despite doing it the same time every morning with no movement, I had no CM to speak of, and no symptoms of anything else! I had no idea what was going on! I didn't used OPK's, at the time to me they were a waste of money. Had I not gotten pregnant when I did, I probably would have turned to them. My first child was so easy to concieve that when we started having trouble with the second, I panicked so I made an appointment with a specialist. By the time my appointment came around we were pregnant lol It took us a year to concieve him with no signs or symptoms of ovulation, so it can happen. OPK's are probably a good indicator, but they can be off. I read a good article in Womens Health about them. Sometimes you can get a positive but your window of opportunity is over. Mind you I get confused with them so I'm not an expert lol I would keep a chart anyways becuase there might be something small you are missing that says you ARE in fact ovulating, it couldn't hurt right? And it makes it easy to bring the shart in and hsow your OBGYN. Good luck!

You get a + OPK 4-5 hours after the LH enters your bloodstream. Supposedly you O 24-36 or 48 hours after the LH (I forget the second number), so depending on how often you're testing, you could be on the edge of the window, but it's still better than waiting for the temp rise, because then O has for sure happened. It's probaby best to also chart CP and CF/CM for additional advance warning.

Good luck!

Has anyone else ever tried a fertility monitor? I bought a clearblue monitor and this is my first month on it and I really like it. It's great because it tests the estrogen levels in your urine as well as the LH. It's able to pinpoint your high fertile days leading up to ovulation when your estrogen is on the rise and then your peak day(s) when it detects the LH. I am so excited because I am on CD15 and I finally got my high fertile day indicator!

I found that charting temps got me stressed out and I don't really like taking opks so I feel that this is the best fit for me. All I need to do is pee on a stick first thing in the morning and then pop it in the machine and voila!...it tells me where I am in my cycle! It just seems to simplify everything and I am not always second guessing myself. The only downside can be the cost, but I managed to find a used one that came with 30 test sticks for $50. So far I love it and would recommend it to anyone.

JEANEANNE i totally hate it when they suggest we do something like that for 3 months!! i mean where do WE have the time to be fixated in doing temp charts and like Mara said and i know this they don't exactly point to the problem cos you may just be ovulating "later or earlier" than usual......i tell you i know some people who have perfect cycles but they don't use opks at the "right time".....

do this.....you know how long your cycles are [regular?] and if its a 28 cycle then ov is typically cd14,15,16,17,18 [in this range]
31-32 cycle then its the same and possibly extend from cd14-26 i know this as it has happened to someone i know. this is when you need to test.....

hopefully everything will work out for you......

I remember talking to a woman who used a fertility watch, or ovulation watch or whatever it was LOL She LOVED it. She said it helped her get pregnant. I'm not sure exactly how they work but I thought it worth mentioning.

I found the more fixated I became on my charts and temping the less I even wnated to hjave sex just cause my calendar said so. In the last twomonths before getting our BFP's we were barely having sex, both of us were stressed and a little resentful. We weren't "trying" I'm so glad to say it was sponataenous sex that led to my second son and not some regulated chore. lol sounds funny when I say it that way lol Some days I found charting the most confusing thing EVER and truthfully it felt unnatural. But I figured I'd need it because my whole life I'd be really irregular. I continued to chart my periods, onto because we were going to see a Dr about this so I thought I'd better know my cycles and I printed out my predicted ovulation days from two websites, this one and babyzone.com All I was going with was my O dates based on those two websites, no idea if they were right, but at least ONE of them was! lol

Right now I am still using the site www.mymonthlyperiods.com even though we're not trying and I'm on birthcontrol I still like to keep track of them. It will give you your estimated cycles length which so far has been pretty accurate! And when I come off birth control I"ll continue to use it since I'll have been tracking my periods for a few years it'll know the change and I can see it. It also gives you a fertility calendar. I find the way to enter info much easier, I like it. Hopefully it comes in handy in about 3 years lol
