PINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Charlotte Marie was born Sunday, Feb. 1st at 12:38pm. Here's how it went down.
DH and I got to the hospital at midnight and got set up on pitocin around 1am. The nurse we had at first was crazy...I had to ask for an enema and then she didn't even know how to give it!! (thankfully my mom knew what was up). They had the hardest time keeping the baby on the fetal monitor all night and it really became an issue later.
Things were going well for quite awhile, I was really handling the whole thing without any meds and I was really happy (laughing through contractions and such). They broke my water around 6am (I was sleeping when the resident came in and hadn't fully woken up before she broke it so it HURT!) I was still only 2 cm. Around 9 am the pitocin was at 42 (for those who know, they only ever get it to 60 max) and I was only 3 cm...I was miserable...The pain became so bad, I thought my pelvic bone was going to split open or I was going to die Ha! Anyway, after much sorrow, I gave in and decided to get the epidural...I knew I would never be able to make it through the next 7 cm because I was not able to relax between the contractions anymore and they felt like they were one on top of another. My nurse kept messing around with the fetal monitor (because of course, baby would not cooperate!) and I finally yelled at her to get the anesthesiologist. I needed my epidural two contractions ago!
Anyway, as soon as I get my epidural (which in my opinion kinda hurt and I really didn't like the feeling of the needle in my back...but OH SWEET RELIEF!!! Instantaneously!) My blood pressure drops to 85/47 and the her heart rate dropped to 90! I was so upset, I was crying because I was already upset about getting the epidural and I thought I had hurt my baby because I was too weak...anyway, finally after giving me TONS of medicine, they get my BP and her heart rate up.
They finally decided to do an internal monitor because they just couldn't get her to stay on the monitor. This is about an hour after the epidural. The resident said "OH! She's 8cm!" I went from 3 to 8 in an HOUR!! I couldn't believe what I heard! Half an hour later the doctor gets there and I am fully dilated! I started pushing at 11:00 and an hour and 40 minutes later my baby girl was born.
I started to tear so my doctor went ahead and gave me an episotomy. I was glad my epidural wasn't too strong and I was able to tell when to push and everything! It was awesome! I can't describe how cool it was to push her out like that!
The doctor let DH call out her sex (which was great cause I couldn't see her because she was on my stomach and we cried so much!) I am so proud of my DH he was the best labor coach ever! And he's already showing he's going to be a great dad!
She was 7 lbs 10.5 oz and 20.5 inches long...my doc said if we had waited until 40 weeks he doesn't think I would have been able to push her out.
In the end, I am really happy with my decision to get the epidural, at the time if felt like I was failing everyone (DH, my mom, me and my baby) but it turned out to be the right decision, I truly believe I wouldn't have progressed without it and I am glad I got my vaginal delivery.
We are all doing well. Breastfeeding didn't work out for us and I am a little sad about it. We did it for about 4 days but because of a huge comedy of errors, things just didn't go well and she was too hungry. She won't latch for anything, even though my milk finally came in early Thursday morning (took 5 days!). So formula looks like our option. I certainly learned a lot and hope that next time I will be able to have more breast feeding success.

CONGRATULATIONS!! I'm glad the birthing story had such a great outcome and that you were able to give birth naturally as you hoped to (no C-section I mean). And I love the name Charlotte!
