Well I will be 8 weeks soon and my eatting habits are not getting any better. I switched to wheat bread which is fine with me because I love it. I was eatting yogurt to satisfy my sweet craving but I got sick of it. I really don't want to gain 50 pounds like I did with my daughter. I know in pregnancy your going to gain weight and thats fine with me I just don't want to gain to much. Does anyone have any suggestions???

your off to a good start by switching to wheat.. i'd do that with spaghetti and all!! Drink pleny of water.. instead of doing yogurt all the time add in fruit!! apples, peaches, bananas are all good for you make smoothies! vanilla yogurt plus whatever fruit juice you want and a banana strawberries, blueberries anything you want!!.. eat plenty of veggies also... don't forget your protein in eggs and meat! i'm sure you will do fine just watch your portions also.. Good luck hope this helped a little

hey there- im in the same boat as you- trying to be healthy and not gain too much weight. i find the best way to do taht is if you manage to plan in advance on the weekends - so planning out your grocery list and menu for the week, and doing alot of teh cooking and prep on sunday. like this week i made grilled chicken breasts, portabello burgers, soup. soup is a good one esp now that its getting cold! also- i prepared 2 mornings worth of smoothies with bananas, strawberries, 2% milk & flaxseed. i buy the 0% greek yogurt b/c its super thick and filling with lots of protein. oatmeal. what else? a hardboiled egg is healthy too. lots of soups and salads. prepare a few veggie sidedishes for teh week- i personally love asparagus (so easy to make) and brocolli. i made a couple of small ziploc bags with the baby carrots.oh and i got this great idea from a friend for midday snacking- but those 100 calorie bags of microwave popcorn... its awesome b/c you can munch on that for a loooong time. dont get me wrong ive been eating plenty of junk - bergeres, fries, chocolate... but hey at least we can try to be "good" as often as we can!

Let me add my imput in this soup thing.. Yes soup CAN be good BUT watch the sodium.. sodium is what makes you hold in water weight.. so don't eat soup all the time thinking its healthy and low calories.. Homemade soup might be better then the canned.. things i have learned

I know it might be hard but, if you can cut out all processed foods you'd be doing the best thing for you and your baby! Processed foods have tons of "weight gaining" additives. I would avoid all oils except virgin coconut and exv olive oil. All other oils stay in your body for a long time. THe organic greek yogurt mentioned before is a great option! Very thick and almost pudding like. Make sure when you get your bread it's 100% whole wheat otherwise there are no whole grains involved. If you can get all organic dairy and meat you can avoid hormones and antibiotics that add to weight gain. Eat lots of raw veggies and fruits (that way you get fiber nad the most vitamins). If it's not a color found in nature guess what! It's not meant to be eaten! You should get some good probiotics (garden of life has the best) and this will help your body fight sickness and also keep you from absorbing too much crap!

good point momoflad- i meant homemade soup, b/c yuo are right - store bought/canned is full of salt. if you take teh time to make it homemade soup is actually easy, super cheap and you can make a hige batch at once and portion off to freeze. i make split pea in a crockpot which is by far the easiest & least time intensive!

I second the greek yogurt - have you tried Fage - it's low in fat and super duper creamy. My fav thing to eat when I was PG was muesli (sugar free) with fruit (grapes, strawberries and rasperberries) and a little bit of honey. YUM.

USE NATURAL SEA SALT ONLY AND FOR OILS ONLY: OLIVE, FLAXSEED, CANOLA, SAFFLOWER, SUNFLOWER
http://www.birthingnaturally.net/nutrition/myths.html
Pregnancy Nutrition Myths If your tummy is growing, than you are probably the recipient of unsolicited advice on everything from what not to do, to what not to eat. Frustrating, yes! But unfortunately some of the advice that well meaning friends and relatives give can actually hurt you. Let's take a look at some of the most common misconceptions.
Myth: Eat up, you're eating for two. Fact: Whoa, slow down there and put the second helping of lasagna away. A pregnant woman may be eating for two, but one of them only weighs a few pounds. Your body only needs between 200 and 300 extra calories when you are pregnant (up to 500 near the end of your pregnancy). That is about the amount in one cooked chicken breast, without the skin.
Myth: Salt will make you swell up. Fact: Salt is an essential nutrient, even when you are pregnant and it should not be removed from your diet to prevent swelling. Some swelling in pregnancy is normal, if your swelling is continuous you may want to consider the other foods you are eating to be sure you are getting enough protein and water. Also take a serious look at the amount of time you are giving yourself to rest. Rule of thumb, salt your food to taste.
Myth: You need to watch your weight carefully. Fact: The amount of weight you gain says nothing about your overall health. You can gain a lot of weight eating junk food, or you can gain a lot of weight eating the right amount of healthy foods. To avoid problems in pregnancy, pay less attention to the scale, and more attention to the foods you are eating. Keep a list of everything you eat for a couple days, look over the list and see how your eating stacks up. If you need to make changes, do so. The scale can never tell you if you are eating well.
Myth: The baby will just take what it needs from you. Fact: Your baby is being built from protein, a nutrient that your body uses to build tissues, but does not store extra quantities for use in building your baby. If you are not eating adequate protein, your health will suffer as your body begins to break down your tissues (muscle) to feed the baby. The only source of protein your baby has is from the food you eat.
Myth: If you eat a little less, the baby will take some of the extra fat off you. Fact: Your baby is not being built from fat. Fat is a way your body stores glucose, the main source of energy for your body. The difference is that glucose can not be made into protein to build your baby's tissues. If you are not eating enough, your body will have to break down tissues (muscle) to build the baby from and you will get sick and weak.
Myth: A low fat diet will help keep the extra weight off. Fact: Fat is essential to your body's metabolism of water soluble vitamins, it is not the enemy. Fat is no more the culprit for overweight than carbohydrates or proteins are. The problem is not that it is eaten, but that too much is eaten. Too much food of any type will be stored by your body for later use as fat. Low fat diets can be extremely dangerous in pregnancy because most foods considered "fatty" are good sources of protein, such as eggs, meats and cheese. A diet low in protein foods is dangerous in pregnancy.

The Real Salt of the Earth and High Blood Pressure Contrary to what you may have heard about salt, fewer than 20 percent of people with high blood pressure improve on a low-salt diet. The real problem with salt isn't salt at all... it's a lack of potassium. The other problem is also the Sugar and Chemically toxic iodine they add to the salt. The iodine is an agricultural waste by product. The EPA (environmental protection agency) has really strict laws about the companies who make this and what they can do with it. So they sell it to salt companies to add to the salt because in the Midwest in America we used to be iodine deficient. Your body needs real salt, straight from the earth, and is well-equipped to handle it. But commercial salt producers remove all the good minerals (for sale to industry) and add several harmful chemicals (to bleach the salt white and keep it from caking). Potassium neutralizes the negative effect of too much sodium. It also lowers your risk of heart attack and stroke. But we just don't get enough potassium in our diets. The media loves to scare you into thinking that too much salt will cause all sorts of health problems - but the right amount of potassium keeps everything in check. So where do you find potassium? Despite what banana growers want you to think, bananas are not the best source. A typical banana gives you just 490 mg of potassium. You'd have to eat 10 bananas to get the 5,000 mg a day I recommend. And when you figure in the glycemic index (GI) of bananas, eating 10 a day would make you put on fat. Instead, try an avocado, which will give you 1,483 mg of potassium with a much lower GI. But your best source of this mineral is nuts. They are quite high in potassium and have a glycemic index of zero. What else is a good source of potassium? Name any fruit. Yep, that is a good source of potassium. Really, most fruits are great sources of potassium.

I am determiend to stay under 15 pounds gained and all I've done is make sure I eat every two hours so I'm not really hungry. Plus I'm craving alot of fruit so that helps. My eating habits are still pretty much the same and at 19 weeks so far, I've gained 2 pounds. Not too bad for me!
