Hi Pam, Has your doc stripped your membrane? Ask to have it done this week. It doesn't hurt - at least never has for me and had it done in two pregs so far. It caused three hours of 5 min apart contractions the night of the day it was done. When I went to be induced it had helped me along from a 1.5 to a 3 cm dilation. It helps by releasing prostaglandins to bring on contrax. If you really feel like it, you could also ask your doc to suggest the best way to stimulate your nipples. That is a very good contraction-making method. ASK YOUR DOC, THOUGH! :) Best Wishes to you!!! Corinna

I had that done too. It was only minorly painfdul while he did it and I felt icky afterards but it did nothing for me. Course it won't when they are doing it two weeks early. I've heard of people not even getting out of the office after they'vce had it done before going into labor lol So it's worth it. They just insert a finger or two and pull the bag of waters away from around you, like run their fingers along the outside of it. Helps baby put more pressure on it to break. Then ended up having to stab mine twice a week later to breka it lol Touch membranes runs in my fmaily lol

LOL well I had my drs appointment today and if I dont go in labor on my own this week then they are going to talk to me on mon about induction so hopefully next tuesday I will get induced. they will strip my membranes and if that doesnt work they will hook me up to pitocin. So I am hoping for this week I start on my own. How does the induction differ from going into labor on your own? and all that stuff? Thanks for all the support

I was induced with my son and I'm afraid of scaring you if I tell you lol For me it was more terrifying than my c-section lol First of all I hate IV's. Oh don't let them break oyur water first. They did that to me and if you do not progress fast enough you end up with a c-section. I only had 16 hours of labor and could have went twice that. Ok, so they hook you up to the pit drip and start out small. You have to stay in bed and can't movea round because they need to monitor the babys heart rate and if any contractions are starting. You will know when they do because where most people start with first stage labor, twinges and mild discomfort, you go right into third stage labor. It's hard and long and very painful. Your body doesn't have time to let labor gradually build it's just instant hard labor. I had that for 16 hours when they realize that my son hadn't even dropped into the pelvis yet but because of risk of infection form my water being broken they had to do a section. My mom however was induced with me and for her 3 hours start to finish lol So it does differ. In my case, I wasn't overdue as they said I was still two weeks early. Hopefully if it comes to that it goes well and fast for you. They can numb your hand with a novocaine patch if you don't like IV's ASK FOR IT lol

lol Thanks for being honest. I am hoping she comes before then but if I have to be induced, its something I have to deal with. I am not nervous about anything pertaining to the delivery or the labor. I guess I already have it in my head its something I HAVE to deal with and its no big deal. I will probably tell them to just strip my membranes first.

Yeah at this point, there is pretty much no going back lol I comforted myself with knowing that they always have drugs and ways to take car eof you and you won't b e leaving the hospital empty handed. And you really do forget about it all. I mean, after all that I though I was traumaztized but her eI am 2.5 years later doing it again lol I got to the point where I would gladyl go through it all over again just to feel that newborn in my arms and at my breast again. And honestly before I even left the hospital I was saying i' wanted to do it again lol Course that changed at 6 months but I did come around lol Good luck to you nad let us knwo what happens.

lol I was saying in the first 5 months that this one is the ONLY one cause I had 5 months of morning sickness. But now I want to wait 3 years or so before doing it again... I was more scared of the 3 hour glucose test. I had such bad anxiety over that I was a nutcase. Thanks for all the info and I will keep yall updated.

Hi Pam, After having been induced four times now... The first one I did with nothing but Nubain WAAAAAY too early, so it had worn off before the REALLLLLY bad pains occurred. I survived, but it was miserable and I don't recall much of the birth. Plus, the fact that I was so miserable, I fought the contrax and made the labor about 5 hours longer than it should have taken - 12 hours total. The next time I tried to go it without meds again, but ended up asking for the BEST DARN THING IN THE WORLD... THE EPIDURAL. Once I got it I was able to let my body progress without fighting the pain and hindering the contrax - 8 hours total, but two from epi to birth. The third and fourth were planned epidurals - 6 and 5 hours total. If you see the pattern here... Pitocin SUCKS BIG TIME. It hurts like you can't imagine. GET THE EPIDURAL. (if you have to be induced, that is) I keep telling myself that I would love to go into labor on my own and do it without drugs, but it was so worth it to be so coherent and "with it" because of the epi. I remember absolutely everything. And for something that takes about a split second to happen, you might just want to be able to recall it all. :) I'm surprised your doc didn't strip you yesterday. It is supposed to help things along. Also, it helps to do it a day or two before the induction to help ripen your cervix. It isn't an immediate action kind of thing. It takes at least a day or so. :)

Hey! I had Nubain too lol I punched the nurse when she shot it into me because it hurt so bad I screamed lol It kiced in really fast and I was asleep lol Course I woke up two hours later throwing up but it worked lol It worked so well I didn't even feel my spinal go in. I think if I am going to go naturally this time I'll take that shot again, I don't want to lose the urge to push and the pain was pretty easy instead of curing over a contraction after I had the shot I would laugh and go "owie" lol that was it! lol I reccomend it.

Mara with my 2nd it all happened so quick there was barely any time to get to the hospital, woke up with labour pains at 3am and he was out at 6am. I was already 8 cm when i got to the hospital. I was scared he would come out in the car lol. You could wait until your bump starts to show to tell the kids, so they have a visual aid to where the baby is.
Good luck Karmawolf, your body will drop little hints that labour is on its way, my braxton hicks got alot stronger towards the end. Take nice long warm baths, i think that what help bring on baby no 2 for me, i tok hot baths every night that week and he was a week early. Labour dust

Yeah I'd stay at home as long as you can because once you get in there they puit you on the clock and if you "fail to progress" thats when they talk c-section. I told my OB I'll call him when I got into labor so he knows but then I'm not coming to the hospital til my hubby sees a head lol What makes you think you are close? Feeling anything off?

Well the cleaning is nesting lol It works boith at the beginning and the end lol It was how I found out I was pregnant lol Most people I've known go into labour very soon. One of my friends at work has 5 kids and with all 5 she starts tearing cupboards apart and reorganizing and within 24 hours she went into labor lol By 5 times in a row you'd think she'd have caugh on lol Don't know about being talkiative but it could also be part of the energy. I'm regularly more talkative when I have lots of energy but I'm pretty chatty normally lol I think the nest way tot ell is if you really feel liike it's going to happen. There is alot to be said for instinct. Hopefully you won't have to wait too much longer!! I'm so excited!

Hey, things happen, you can be as happy as you want and she should be happy for you as well. I had a m/s and my brothers gf decided it was a great time to tell me they were expecting. She's 16 and when I told her I was upset about what happened and would talk to her about her baby later she goes oh right, I forgot you can't keep babies can you? I was devestated. But hey, 16 yr olds act that way right? So when I got pregnant I decided to keep my mouth shut bnecause drama mama would have a fit. Well, today, I'm letting it out of the bag lol I have fmaily coming up in about 30 minutes and they are blabber mouths so it will get back to the rest of my family before they even get home lol She would be happy for you I mean it's not like you just sprung it on her right? She's known for the last almost 40 weeks so yeah it's heart breaking but she can try again. I don't mean to sound cold about it but you need to be excited for you. And she should be too. You never know maybe she will get some practice with your baby before she has her own. If it helps, I'm excited for you lol I cannot wait to read themessage that you had your baby and what you named it and you better give pictures lol I'll give you my e-mail address if oyu want lol I love babies!!! Good luck babe, hope those contractions start soon.

I think it is very common for first pregnancies to end in m/c. My first one at age 21 ended at 10 weeks - blighted ovum. Let her know that you are sad for her but that you are happy for the new life you are bringing and that you hope she will be just as happy welcoming your new little doll. Babies are very healing. Your little girl has the potential to heal the hurt in her heart - if your (girl-friend)-in-law is open to it. But, under no circumstances, should you have to be quiet or depressed for her about your joy. I can't remember if you had a m/c at all before this pregnancy... also, were they trying to get pregnant with the baby they lost? Not that trying or not trying would make a difference in the pain she is feeling, but it could be the difference of how she is going to react to you. (has she even talked to you about it or are you just getting ahead of the game in preparing for a difficult situation?) **I would totally understand that strategy!!** I hate not being prepared for situations.
Please remember that your hormones are going to be going APE S**T on you after you have her, so enjoy all the time you are able without the interference of outsiders of ANY sort of negative impact. You never know, she may benefit from your little princess...
Best of wishes to you... SOON>>>>VERY SOON!!!! Corinna
